HomeSchooling Legal Case in CA

I just got this notice on one of my homeschooling lists. Thought I should pass it on to everyone I know. You don't need to live in the state of CA or be a homeschooler to sign this petition. The particular family in this case was accused of abuse (you can read about the case on the site) and it probably was in the best interest of THOSE children to have that particular ruling. The concern is that the ruling could be applied to ALL families in the state of CA that choose the R4 method of homeschooling (I'm unclear if other methods of homeschooling would be affected). If you have time, please clink the link and sign to help preserve our current homeschooling rights in the state of CA.
----
Here is a link regarding a petition to the California Supreme Court about a decision by the
Appellate court that claims homeschooling is illegal in CA. To "depublish" is to render the
decision in this case to be ONLY applicable to the particular family involved rather than to
ALL families in CA. The court basically said that ALL homeschooling in California is illegal.
What happens in CA will happen in other states too. If you enjoy your right to home school
your children please check this out. If your family supports you in your homeschooling
endeavor, have them sign too.

You can help stop this threat to homeschooling by signing an online
petition to depublish the Court of Appeal opinion at
http://hslda.org/elink.asp?ID=4831

Home School Legal Defense is collecting signatures to send on to California. YOU DO NOT
NEED TO BE A MEMBER OF HSLDA, a California resident or even a home schooling parent
TO SIGN!!

Thoughts on Homeschooling and Writing

Someone asked me why I don't blog on stuff other then horse schools so here I go.

Yes, I homeschool, for those of you that don't already know. I have an 8 year old dd and almost 2 year old dd. My eldest dd has homeschooled the entire time except for a year and a half at preschool. We have used many different curriculums and methods. We are currently enrolled in a district charter school, using Oak Meadow waldorf curriculum, some charter school books, and various other texts I've found. We tend to like the online computer learning games a lot and science movies.

In addition, to working on "Horse Schools" and articles on equine education and careers I also write fiction. I'm currently working on a romance novel that I hope to have done by July. I also have a script due for it's final rewrite and another script about half way down.

I don't really have any specific thoughts to share at this moment. All of this "stuff" keeps me pretty busy and it feels like I rarely have a free moment, but when I do I take full advantage of it.

Cheers,
Angelia

Equine Affaire in Pomona, CA

I'll be heading down to Pomona, CA for the Equine Affaire at the end of the month for those of you that are in the area. I'm scheduled to speak on Friday, Feb 1, at noon (please double check the schedule when you arrive) in one of the seminar rooms. I'll be speaking on horse careers and education and look forward to seeing some of you there. I'll also be at the Practical Horseman/Primedia booth after my presentation signing my book, Horse Schools: The International Guide to Universities, Colleges, Preparatory and Secondary Schools, and Specialty Equine Programs, and answering any questions you have.

If you're planning on attending the Equine Affaire or live in the So. CA area and are considering the possibility of having a horse career I highly recommend that you stop by on Friday.

Happy Holidays

I hope you're all having a happy holiday season. I'm busy as usual. Seems like there is always one more errand to run during this time of year. We'll be out of town for the Christmas week so that adds even more to do for preparing for that trip. But it's all fun.

Interestingly I always find book sales for Horse Schools tend to pick up for the month of December. I assume because many of you will be receiving them as gifts this holiday season.

For those that have asked. Yes, I will be doing one of my seminars in California. I'm scheduled to do my seminar on Horse Careers at the Equine Affaire in Pomona, CA on February 1 at noon. I hope those of you in the area will be able to attend and I look forward to seeing you. As of now I don't know my schedule for the rest of 2008. I'm currently looking at various horse expos and my schedule to see which ones I'll be able to attend. If you'd like me to come to your area please let me know (http://www.angeliaalmos.com).
